Capped Bust Half Dimes were minted in generally larger numbers than the earlier dimes of the United States. The mintage levels range from a low of 51,065 for the first year of issue in 1809 to a high of 1,410,000 pieces in 1835.
Across a span of 29 years for the series, coins were minted carrying 20 different dates. For the first two dates, mintages were below the 100,000 level. For four separate dates mintages exceeded the one million mark. The first portion of the series struck from 1809 to 1828 carry a wide border and are generally scarcer than the later coins in the series. From 1828 until the conclusion of the series in 1837, coins were struck with a modified design following the adoption of new equipment at the Philadelphia Mint.
The mintage figures for the Capped Bust Half Dime series by date are shown below. The multitude of varieties for the series are not listed, since mintage levels by variety are unknown. For 1825, the mintage is included within the prior year figure. For 1828, only the mintage level across both varieties is known.
